Lawrence High’s baseball team outhit Olathe Northwest 10-4 but dropped a 3-2 decision on Thursday at LHS.

Garrett Cleavinger (1-1) took the loss despite striking out nine batters in five innings.

The Lions trailed 3-1 entering the seventh but came up one run short.

“The bottom line is waited way too long to compete,” LHS coach Brad Stoll said. “We waited until the seventh inning, and that’s very disappointing and very unlike us. To their credit, they had some base hits in key situations early and really didn’t do much the rest of the game. The beautiful thing is we get to go back out Saturday.

LHS (2-2) will play Saturday at Shawnee Heights.

These guys should be 4-0. Its a talented bunch who seem to be more interested in reading their headlines than playing sound, fundamental baseball. The errors and mental errors are killing them. The team on the other side of town is not very talented, but at least they are trying to get better.

The team across town only plays the kids in the "good Ole Boy" network. They will never be a talented team. Time for a change.

'never be a talented team'......'only plays the kids in the good Ole Boy network'......I am thinking the Kukuk's would dispute that comment........

That coach cost KUKUK a bunch of money!!

No way. The one to one and a half month season in KS HS baseball is virtually meaningless for MLB draft. Kukuck could have played catcher and still been drafted where he was. Its what you do in the summer that counts.

You have a very good point! I would have to agree with that.

Clicker- I don't always agree with what you say but you hit the nail on the head here. Summer baseball is where the players will be seen and where they will get the best competition.....thank-you.

It always stinks when you out hit a team by that much and still lose. That is the nature of baseball....
