Volunteers needed for site cleanups

March 29, 2012

The Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area is looking for volunteers to help in its Park Day cleanups beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The group helps maintain Civil War battlefields and historic sites. Black Jack Battlefield and Nature Park is participating by asking volunteers to collect trash along its trails. Volunteers are asked to bring their own equipment to the site, 163 East 2000 Road, Wellsville, three miles east of Baldwin City. Kerry Altenbernd is available with more information at (785) 840-8029.

Constitution Hall in Lecompton is also looking for volunteers with rakes and brooms to help clean the building at 319 Elmore St. and the surrounding area. More information is available from Paul Bahnmaier at (785) 887-6148.

It would be nice if people would not drop trash along trails in parks and historic sites.
