Agent Orange meeting this weekend
Veterans and their families are invited to a town hall meeting about Agent Orange and other toxic chemicals that have been used during war.
The meeting will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka at 2200 SW Gage Blvd., Building 24.
Ronald Bishop, president of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter in Ottawa, said the meeting is for all branches of the military. He said speakers from Vietnam Veterans of America will talk about how the effects of toxic chemicals have been found in fifth generations of veterans. They also will offer advice on what families can do. He said the group is traveling the country and collecting information to potentially present to Congress.
Agent Orange is a blend of tactical herbicides the U.S. military sprayed from 1962 to 1971 during the Vietnam War to remove trees and dense tropical foliage that provided enemy cover.
