— Free State High’s baseball team dropped a pair of games Saturday, falling to Nixa, Mo., 7-5, and Ozark, Mo., 8-4.

Senior Tim Turner hit a home run for the Firebirds against Nixa. Fellow senior Montana Samuels drove in two runs in each of the games.

“We did play some quality opponents today,” FSHS coach Mike Hill said. “We did show some signs of improvement, despite the losses. There were some things we did well. In the second game, I thought we hit the ball well. We still have a lot to work on, but the kids are headed in the right direction.”

The Firebirds (0-3) will play host to Olathe East at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
