For the second time, Free State High School senior Trei Dudley has been named the Boys and Girls Club’s Kansas Youth of the Year.
Dudley won the award at a ceremony Tuesday night. She received the same award in 2009 as a Central Junior High ninth-grader.
The honor is given to a youth for his or her contributions to family, school and community and for those who have overcome personal challenges and obstacles.
Dudley started attending Boys and Girls Club in elementary school and continued volunteering with the club in junior high. She is now a staff member at the club.
Along with her work with the club, Dudley volunteers with the Ballard Center, LINK and Family Promise. At Free State, she has been a participant and board member of Can We Talk?, a cheerleader and an editor on the yearbook staff.
After high school, Dudley plans to attend the University of Arkansas and major in business. She would like to someday open a center for underprivileged children and teens.
The honor comes with a $1,000 college scholarship.
