Kansas City, Kan., man charged in connection with 2008 robbery in Lawrence

Douglas County prosecutors have charged a 22-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man in connection with a 2008 Lawrence robbery.

Maurice Lee Roberson was brought to the Douglas County Jail Wednesday afternoon on a warrant in which he’s charged with aggravated robbery, conspiracy, one count of aggravated burglary, one count of aggravated assault, theft of less than $1,000 and criminal possession of a firearm, according to jail records. He’s accused of possessing a shotgun during the robbery.

He was brought here from the Wyandotte County Jail.

Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson said Roberson is charged in connection with a Dec. 3, 2008, robbery. Two other Kansas City, Kan., men earlier this year entered pleas in connection with the robbery of an alleged drug dealer who lived at a home in the 3400 block of August Drive north of Kasold Drive and Clinton Parkway. Both men, John T. Words, 21, and Christopher J. Jackson, 23, agreed to give additional statements to police about other possible participants.

Jackson admitted he stole a safe as part of the robbery and also used a gun to scare or intimidate a woman who was in the house at the time.

Jackson and Words are scheduled to be sentenced in April. Roberson told pro-tem Judge James George he did not understand the charges against him so George ordered him to undergo a competency evaluation.

He is being held on $50,000 bond.
