• Five Lawrence residents are among the 40 members of the 2012 Leadership Kansas Class. They were chosen from among 552 nominations. The new members from Lawrence are Douglas Gaumer, Robert Knapp, Matthew McClorey, Riley Scott and Susan Tate.

• Mike Everett of Life Success & Legacy was a featured speaker at the annual Infinite Banking Concepts Think Tank Symposium last month in Birmingham, Ala.

• Lawrence Presbyterian Manor was included on U.S. News & World Report’s Best Nursing Homes list for 2012. The ranking is based on health inspections, nurse staffing and quality of care, and uses information from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Of the 350 or so nursing homes in Kansas, a total of 67, or 19 percent, made the list, which was released last month. Lawrence Presbyterian Manor was the only nursing home in Douglas County to make the list, and it has done so since 2008.

• The Lawrence Referral Network is inviting the public to a talk on advertising and marketing strategies with an emphasis on social media for small businesses. The event will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Marriott Springhill Suites, Sixth and New Hampshire streets. Will Katz from the Kansas University Small Business Development center will speak.
