Rural Franklin County home destroyed by overnight fire

A rural Franklin County home was destroyed by fire early Friday, sheriff’s officials said.

All family members at the home southeast of Williamsburg escaped safely, said Master Deputy Jerrod Fredricks, a spokeswoman for the Franklin County Sheriff’s office. The fire was reported about 1 a.m. at 606 Delaware Road.

Fredricks said family members told officers they would be staying with relatives. The cause of the fire was still under investigation, but it may have started due to a wood-burning stove, Fredricks said.
