Kathy Branson, a longtime math teacher at West Middle School, has been named the school’s next assistant principal.
Branson has taught at the school for 19 years. She replaces Jeff Harkin, who is leaving to become principal at Liberty Memorial Central Midd le School.
She earned a bachelor’s degree at Kansas University and a teaching certification at Washburn University.
The move still must be approved by the school board and becomes effective with the start of the 2012-13 school year.

Kathy was always the "acting" administrator when admin was out of the building! She is and was the BEST candidate! Congrats Branson!

Good to hear pickaname. Any idea how many other candidates were interviewed? I would imagine it would be difficult to get a large pool of applicants this late in the game. I always understood that administrators were pretty much under contract for the next school year by the end of the current school year.

I am sure there was a large pool. These jobs are highly sought after. Branson was probably one of the best math teachers ever at West with the exception of Mrs. Wagner. They both had my kids. Branson was always the one doing the heavy lifting at the Warhawk Invite. She made that one the of best tournments around. Great Choice Mr. Melton!
