Fair aims to broaden children’s interests

A kids fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday July 14 at Lawrence Montessori School, 5005 Legends Drive. The fair, which is free, is hosted by the school as well as other area businesses that specialize in children’s activities such as music and athletics.

Ongoing events during the day include a tumbling room and open gym, pottery painting, face painting, taekwondo demonstrations, a fireworks chemistry presentation and music activities such as song performances, dances and instrument instructions.

Events also include a concert by Rockin’ Rob at 10:30 a.m. and an 11:30 a.m. interactive cooking class by a Montessori School chef and Hy-Vee. After the food demonstration, a free lunch will be served for all in attendance.

The fair will also have a raffle with more than $500 in prizes from the fair sponsors, including a shopping spree at The Toy Store, 936 Mass.

Lawrence Montessori School hosts children’s fairs and events twice a year to help broaden kids’ interests.

“It’s nice to bring kids together and expose them to a wide variety of activities,” said Parendi Birdie, assistant head of Lawrence Montessori School. “(The fair) is an alternative activity that can engage kids and helps them develop and gives them a solid foundation to grow their interests.”

The event and all activities are free and open to the public. People can park in the school’s parking lot and enter through the front of the building.
