Silent auction?

July 3, 2012

To the editor,

Leaving aside (for now) the question of whether the conservative Supreme Court’s “Citizen United” decision was politically motivated, perhaps someone would explain to me the benefit of having massive amounts of secretive (foreign?) money pumped into our electoral system at the federal, state and local levels. I would really like to hear how this is a good thing. For this man, it feels like what we’ve done is replace a political system with a silent auction. Perhaps we should really enjoy the upcoming 4th of July, while it still means something.

born again immigrant....southern conservatives talk like you just did....I grew up amongst them.....why make fun of smart when one sounds like a raging simpleton.... false like a true conservative hit on the people who can't defend themselves..... my father waited on a liver transplant from November 2004 to May 2009... he was on disability for that time after 37 years of ministry where he was taxed at 31% as self employed. His taxes paid for his disability. My brother had a horrific car accident in 1993 that nearly killed him. He was left permanently blind in one eye and deaf in one ear with no short term memory from a closed head injury. He was hospitalized for three months and was on disability until the doctors cleared him eight months later. He's now a father and a successful worker who is now overcoming leukemia. Please refrain from sounding like heartless simpletons when looking for strawmen to attack in a classic Bill O Reilly manner.

I'm sure even though Mr Schamle wrote this about the ruling with good intentions, I wish he'd have at least brushed on the corruption and big, big money fueling the economic takeover of the economy that Obama and his closest allies have fully embarked on. It really is stunning what this adm. and his extremists allies are up to. We are certainly in dire trouble if this is not stopped.

pizzapete: yesterday you asked some posters to stop posting because their idiotic drivel was giving real Repubs a bad name. While that is certainly true, it's mostly your own fault. You guys swept Brownback and the Tea Party into office, and now, like it or not, FHNC and BAA are your spokespeople. If your are embarrassed and shamed, maybe it's time to clean house, vote responsibly, and bring sanity back to public discourse. Your post was a small step, but a good start.

Isn't it interesting how some of the folks who post on here, especially like to pretend they understand the constitution, but still like demeaning other posters for their stating their opinions???

Good news for 'Flex". Money should be 'rolling' in soon for "silent auction" donations now that 'his' people have spending money. Flex started with a 1 and 19 ratio. But, he has got it down to 1 in 16 ratio. Good job Flex. Soon he'll have a 1 to 1 ratio.

People on Disability Payments Hits Record 8.7 Million Monday, 02 Jul 2012 08:55 PM By Todd Beamon

More than 8.7 million people took federal disability payments in June — more than the population of New York City, the Social Security Administration reports.

In June, 8,733,461 workers received payments, up from 8,707,185 in May, with an average payment of $1,111.42, cnsnews.com reports.

Both figures exceed the population of New York City — 8,244,910 — according to Census figures.

According to CNSNews.com, the 2012 figures continue to illustrate the dramatic shrinkage in the number of American citizens actually employed and earning paychecks over the past 20 years.

In June 1992, for instance, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 118,419,000 people were working in the United States, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics – but only 3,334,333 workers were claiming federal disability payments.

That amounted to one person on disability for every 35.5 people actually working.

But when 'Flex" was inaugurated in January 2009, those employed totaled 142,187,000, while 7,442,377 people were taking federal disability payments – or about 1 person on disability per 19.1 people actually working.

As for the May 2012 figures, 8,707,185 were claiming disability payments compared with 142,287,000 people actually working – or 1 worker on disability for every 16.3 people working.

I don't think pumping lots of corporate money into elections is a good thing, but the issue isn't if it is good or not, but whether it is constitutional. The SCOTUS shouldn't look at whether an issue is good or bad, but whether it is constitutional.

If the constitution allows something that is detrimental to society then society can amend the constitution. It is not the role of the SCOTUS to deviate from what is constitutional simply because it is the "right" thing to do.

We, as the people, must accept decisions that are constitutional regardless of our personal beliefs. We then, if we feel strongly enough, can work to amend the constitution to address the concern.

Conservatives in important positions seem to be afraid to stick to their principles---they bow to liberal pressure more as time passes it seems.

It's hard to call the court conservative in light of the health care decision

Looks like some of the big donors to the Mope's campaign in 2008 have gotten buyer's remorse.

It's how the complex intellectual Liberals do business Mr Schamle.

And yes, Roberts is a complex DRD4 Genie. A 'Narcissistic' Genie that is 'worried' what other complex Liberals say about him.

No "Constitution" around New America anymore. Only the "living, breathing document" for New America.

Fireworks are "banned" so get a box of 'condoms' to snap into the air for "Diversity Day" on July 4th.

Foreign money? The writer must be referring to money from George Soros.
