25 years ago: ‘Baby John Doe’ celebrates first birthday with adoptive family
From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 25, 1987:
An article gave a brief description of the current life of “Baby John Doe,” the abandoned infant who had been discovered the previous January in a Lawrence apartment stairwell. The little boy had recently celebrated his first birthday and the local office of the Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services said that they had received only positive reports from the adoptive family. “We can say the boy is doing very fine. He’s healthy, growing and appears to be of above-average intelligence. He’s very bright,” said Jim Baze, section supervisor of the Lawrence and Topeka SRS offices. “I know he was a very beautiful baby and continues to be…. he appears to have found a very good home.” The baby’s new parents, Baze said, felt “very fortunate to have received such a child who is healthy, happy and learning very rapidly.”
