Donation option

To the editor:

It is understandable, in this day and age, not to have young girls going door to door anymore selling Girl Scout cookies. But some troops (and the girls and parents) are being left to pick up a financial burden. So wrong.

Troops will be selling cookies at various locations in the coming weeks. If you don’t need cookies, buy some and donate them to Just Food or another local food pantry. The leader at the sale may even arrange to deliver your donation for your convenience.

Help the Scouts and give a treat to a family that cannot afford a box of cookies this winter.

I found a good home for the peanut butter patties. I will donate some on Monday. That was a great suggestion.

"If you don’t need cookies, buy some and donate them..." Really? How about if I don't want any crap cookies I won't be guilted into buying them...especially when a small fraction of my $ would stay local. No thanks! I think the GS is a great outlet for kids but the cookie racket has long grown tiresome.

If I were going to give cookies to someone, it would not be boxed cookies baked in a factory. They would be homemade cookies. The only kind of cookie I ever buy is Fig Newtons. They are actually soft enough to be enjoyable........and they taste ok....
