A Kansas University associate professor of philosophy is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the governor’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Thursday.

Derrick Darby’s work has connected philosophy with issues and concerns that impact black America. His most recent book is “Rights, Race and Recognition.”

He was one of four professors to receive a University Scholarly Achievement Award in 2011 for his work.

The celebration will begin with a ceremonial march led by the Topeka High School drumline at 11:45 a.m., followed by a ceremony at Topeka High School, 800 SW 10th St. in Topeka.

Other state and civic leaders are also expected to participate in the ceremony.
