Incumbent seeks re-election to Lecompton City Council

Jimmy Wilkins is running for re-election to the Lecompton City Council.

Wilkins, 40, is seeking another two-year term on the five-member council, which oversees municipal operations and government for the community of 666 residents northwest of Lawrence.

Wilkins, a Republican, is a senior maintenance worker for the city of Lawrence. He filed his paperwork Monday at the Douglas County Courthouse.

The filing deadline for candidates is noon Jan. 24, and the election is April 3.

Two other council members’ terms are up for election: Christy Mallonee and Jennifer Smith. Neither has filed as a candidate.

The filing fee is $1. The council meets twice per month, and council members are paid $30 per meeting.
