Caring counts
To the editor:
A recent article in the Journal-World indicated that it was a mystery as to why crime rates were down. Maybe it is because Lawrence is such a caring community.
Keeping SRS services in Lawrence had to be one factor, but I am thinking of other services that are provided for the young people in Lawrence, such as Van Go Arts, the Boys and Girls Club, the library and city recreation programs. Add in Habitat for Humanity, CASA, the Family Promise programs, the Lawrence Community Shelter, and the outreach services provided by the Lawrence Art Center, Theatre Lawrence and the Lied Center, you have a great place to live. When families are stronger, crime rates go down. Congratulations to all who contributed!
