A 19-year-old Leavenworth man pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in connection with a May burglary of a Jefferson County gun shop, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said.

Andrew Michael Amundsen pleaded guilty to one count of burglary and theft of firearms from a federally licensed dealer.

In the plea, Amundsen admitted he and another man drove on May 18 to the Winchester Gun and Rock Shop where he cut an exterior power line to disable a security alarm. He then opened a rear door while, he said, a co-defendant stood guard outside. The men took 15 firearms from the store and sold some of them to two men in Leavenworth County for cash and electronics.

According to Grissom’s office, Leavenworth County Sheriff’s officers recovered the stolen guns from the buyers a month later.

U.S. District Judge Richard Rogers is scheduled to sentence Amundsen April 6 in Topeka. He faces a maximum 10 years in prison and fine up to $250,000. Co-defendant Justin Edwards Hornback, 20, of Tonganoxie, is awaiting trial in the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Warner prosecuted Amundsen’s case. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.
