? Kansas University carried a two-point lead into halftime, but Iowa State rebounded after intermission and pulled away for a convincing 66-47 victory over the Jayhawks on Wednesday night.

It was the first full game for the KU women’s team since it lost its leading scorer and All-Big 12 candidate, junior Carolyn Davis, because of season-ending knee injury.

Senior Aishah Sutherland stepped up to help fill the void, with 12 of her team-high 19 points in the first half, which KU won, 23-21.

But the Cyclones hit 60 percent from the field after the half and drained five of eight three-pointers (62.5 percent) after the break.

Sutherland also had nine rebounds and four blocks. Angel Goodrich was the only other Jayhawk to score in double figures with 10, and she had four assists.

Starting in Davis’ place, freshman Chelsea Gardner had eight points and four rebounds in 29 minutes.

KU fell to 17-8 overall, 6-7 in the Big 12. ISU improved to 15-9, 6-7.

Iowa State quickly erased Kansas’ lead with its first shot of the second half, a three from Brynn Williamson at the 19:19 mark. The bucket was the first of 14 straight points by the Cyclones.

KU will host Border Showdown rival Missouri at 1 p.m. Saturday. The game will be televised by Metro Sports.
