Musical delight

To the editor:

I just returned from the choral concert by local middle and high school students and it’s going to take a while for me to come down from the clouds. Extraordinary. I’ve always considered the music programs in the Lawrence schools to be outstanding, ever since attending programs my children participated in and continuing with my grandchildren, but I never dreamed I would see such a great program.

No doubt the gracious and talented help of the KU conductor had much to do with it, but it’s also a function of the wonderful group of dedicated music directors at the various schools, their work with their individual choral group and their cooperation with each other. And, yes indeed, those young women and men were great! Somebody please tell Gov. Brownback the arts are alive and well here and deserve a lot more support from him.

the only problem with that concert was that it did not last long enough. It was a most enjoyable 40 minutes, but I wanted more. I did not want it to end. Perhaps next year they will add a couple of pieces.

Thanks for this letter supporting good teachers and responsible parenting. This concert would not have possible without both. How many home school concerts have you attended and can say the same things about them?

The arts departments, particularly music, are the main reason we haven't switched to the private schools. Sadly, one of the best in the business is retiring this year. LHS has been so lucky to have Cathy Crespino as their director. Hopefully an equally talented young conductor will take her place. She will be sorely missed.
