Letter: 100 years too late
To the editor:
Well-thought-out, carefully written laws do pretty well in controlling the behavior of the masses. They don’t do so well at controlling individuals. At this very moment, somewhere in this country, there is another alienated, depressed, suicidal individual coveting the worldwide attention being showered on the perpetrator of the Connecticut school atrocity and thinking of ways to emulate or even surpass him. This is as certain as tomorrow’s sunrise. I do not know how to stop him, but I do know this: We will not stop him by passing yet another law specifying who is permitted to purchase which type of firearm. It is 100 years too late to close that barn door.
