To the editor:

Guns and madness. Deadly mix. Unspeakable tragedy. Concealed-carry idiocy. Wake up, America. Rein in the National Rifle Association.  How do we prevent mass murder of small children? Horrible, horrible thing.

What law, keeping in mind that CT has an assault gun ban and some of the strictest gun laws, would you enact that would have stopped the shooting in CT.

Lets focus on mental illness treatment and registering the mentally ill so we can keep guns out of their hands.

Right on. We use to lock the mentally sick in asylums, where they belong, and then our government un-funded most of them. Where are the nuts now? Roaming downtown Lawrence and/or in their parents basement playing war games. As for the asylums, we now have a place for ghost hunters to set-up shop. This incident is more of the governments fault and a parent not admitting their child was too wierd to fix.

Locking them up isn't the answer. Treatment is and funding the law passed in 2004 that would enter people into the gun background check database to limit their access to guns. They can buy from a private person or illegally but it does limit access.

Mom bought the guns...legally and with a background check, not at some gun show. If Mom would have locked the lil freak in an institution where he belongs AND where he could have received your so-called treatment, 27 people would be alive today. I am tired of the misnomer that every nut can some how be fixed by some treatment or therapy or drugs, and this includes parents who refuse to accept their children are flawed in a possibly fatal way.

By "lil freak" I assume you mean people with personality disorders, schizoaffective disorders, autism, bipolar, schizophrenia, major depression, and on and on. If we lock "them" up, as you suggest, there will be very few of "us" left unlocked.

In fact, your letter itself displays some of the traits of a personality disorder. Yes, I'm certain the DSM describes your disorder quite clearly. Time to lock up your "lil freak self" in some institution with the rest of "them" so the rest of "us" may live in peace.

I don't understand your question. If you rephrase it, I will try to answer.

He's kid that suffers mental illness. He just killed 27 people including children. I agree he should be locked up, but he is no freak. He will be tortured until the day he dies.

Every time you talk about a person with a mental illness as a "freak" you are just stigmatizing the illness further, which will discourage people from seeking the help they need.

Mental health treatment is very important and has been ignored by the insurance industry. Policies have a maximum of X number of counselling sessions a year and very little in patient time is required and paid for. There is no sense in these horrible deaths in CT but we search to find reason in this heartache. Family lets these murders down by hiding their secrets and not ensuring medication is administered regularly. This shooter was evil. Not the nice face he occasionally showed to others.

Sue: are you OK with 3500 children being killed today via govt-sanctioned abortion?

Good parenting and mental health professionals cannot prevent the actions of genetically mutated humans that are natural born killers.

Gee Sue, who would I rather see with a gun ? A hood in the street or someone trained that has a C and C liscence ? You pick

Why must I choose one or the other? I choose neither.
