Lawrence city commissioners at their Tuesday meeting agreed to transfer a long-term lease for a city-owned building east of City Hall over to a group led by Lawrence businessmen Doug Compton and Mike Logan.

Commissioners signed off an deal that will transfer control of the building that houses Abe & Jake’s from Mike Elwell to the new group formed by Compton and Logan.

The two men plan to continue to use the building for an events venue, with an emphasis on wedding receptions and small-scale conventions.

Commissioners unanimously approved the transfer after being told by staff members that the terms of the lease would remain the same as they were with Elwell.
