To the editor:

The ability to recognize dissonance is a critical skill. It seems few in our state government see dissonance in Sen. Masterson’s statements indicating he is working to pay off his debts — which include more than $160,000 in credit card debt — despite the fact the debts have already been discharged via bankruptcy court. This either indicates a dishonest statement or demonstrates a lack of comprehension of the purpose of bankruptcy.

Even more concerning is Masterson’s refusal to take responsibility for his debts. Instead, he indicates he is not liable for his employee’s actions. As a business owner and a spouse, I know that if someone makes some bad decisions or goes on a spree, I’m responsible. Moving forward, here’s the larger problem: When the state claims bankruptcy in three years, will it be the fault of seniors, the disabled, and the poor?
