City sets dates for Christmas tree recycling, schedules last yardwaste pickup for Monday

The city’s yard waste collection program is ending for the winter, but Lawrence leaders have set aside two dates for residents to dispose of unwanted Christmas trees after the holiday season.

City of Lawrence crews will pick up unwanted Christmas trees on Dec. 31 and Jan. 7. The trees should be set out on the curb by 6 a.m., and the trees should be free of lights, decorations, tinsel, tree stands and other artificial items. No artificial trees will be accepted as part of the recycling program.

The trees will be used for wildlife habitat in the area.

For residents who have leaves, grass clippings or other types of yard waste, the city will offer one more curbside collection for the season. Monday will be the last day for the yard waste program. The program is scheduled to resume on March 4.

During the winter season, residents are allowed to set out yard waste with their regular household trash.
