Woman arrested on suspicion of prostitution, indecent liberties with a child

Lawrence police on Tuesday arrested a 33-year-old woman suspected of prostitution and engaging in sexual contact with a juvenile.

The woman, who’s from Lawrence, was arrested after police officers and detectives executed a search warrant in the 600 block of Gateway Court about 9 a.m. Tuesday.

A statement provided by Lawrence police spokesman Sgt. Trent McKinley said the arrest was part of an ongoing investigation of prostitution including allegations that the suspect advertised “sexually oriented services” online.

In the investigation, police found a Lawrence juvenile, under the age of 16, who allegedly contacted the woman and engaged in sexual contact with her on more than one occasion at a hotel and a residence.

The woman was questioned by investigators and booked into the Douglas County Jail on three counts of prostitution, three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, and three counts of criminal sodomy.

The woman had been arrested but not yet charged Tuesday. Bond has not yet been set.

The Journal-World usually doesn’t name suspects in sex crimes unless they are convicted.
