Shortly before noon Thursday, police were called to a domestic disturbance in the 2400 block of Ousdahl Road.

However, when police arrived, the suspect, a 26-year-old Lawrence man, had already fled on foot. That’s when additional officers — dining at an area restaurant — heard the call and joined the pursuit, which occurred near several businesses on 23rd Street.

The suspect crossed 23rd Street toward Schwegler School, 2201 Ousdahl Road, and jumped several fences, according to Lawrence Police Sgt. Trent McKinley.

Police lost sight of the suspect temporarily, but later located and arrested him.

The man, Thomas C. Banning, was booked on charges of aggravated assault and domestic battery. Bond has not yet been set.
