Letter: No worries

December 3, 2012

To the editor:

The congressmen in Washington want to make cuts in Social Security and Medicare. They won’t have to worry about stretching their benefits to last through the month. They will have plenty of money and benefits. They already do!

My opinion is that unless you have a degree in economics, accounting, foreign relations, agricultural economics, or some applicable field, you should not be eligible to be in the House of Representatives.

A master's degree in the same should be required to be in the Senate.

And, the president should need to have a PhD in one of those fields.

Law degrees should not count at all. But no, all it takes is the votes.

An alternate qualification would be if it could be verified that you had checked your cupboards on many occasions, and discovered that your total supply of food for the rest of the month was two packages of Ramen noodles. And, your cash on hand was less than ten cents.

Some people with degrees still have a lack of common sense. It is unfortunate that only a rich person can afford to run for the presidency.Few of those people who do run/win have little idea what the real needs and concerns of the American people are. Or they just don't care.
