Lawrence man to face trial on aggravated burglery charges

Douglas County District Judge Kay Huff ordered a 30-year-old Lawrence man to face a trial on two counts of aggravated burglary and one count of aggravated battery for a February incident in which he was accused of injuring a Lawrence woman who was in a wheelchair, prosecutors said.

The woman testified at a Tuesday preliminary hearing and accused Jacob Paul Forbes of attacking her at her home March 23 in the 2100 block of Rhode Island Street.

The woman said had a disagreement with Forbes over her not selling marijuana fast enough he had supplied to her. She said he entered her house twice without her permission and eventually took her laptop computer from her. She called police after the incident. Forbes was initially charged with aggravated robbery, but the charges were amended.

Forbes also faces federal charges with dozens of other defendants in a major drug-trafficking case.

Huff scheduled an arraignment in Forbes’ Douglas County case for Sept. 23. Assistant Douglas County District Attorney Eve Kemple said during the hearing the woman was granted immunity in the local case.
