• Amber Capoun, who works as a trial assistant in the consumer protection division of the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, has been elected president of the North American Consumer Protection Investigators organization. She also received the Support to NACPI Award at the group’s national meeting Aug. 5-8 in Atlantic City, N.J. The award recognizes her work on the organization’s quarterly newsletter, her service as membership chairwoman and other work with NACPI over the years.

• Mike Everett, founder of Life Success & Legacy of Baldwin City was recently recognized as one of the nation’s top producers for MTL Insurance. The award was presented at meetings Aug. 9-13 in Washington, D.C.

• The World Company has launched Free State Social, a social media service department aimed at helping local businesses build a social media presence and expand their online marketing efforts. Free State Social had its soft launch in May and held the first sessions in the Free State Social Series on July 27 and Aug. 3 to help local businesses better utilize Facebook pages. Free State Social is a full-service social media department with locally based experts working to help local businesses reach their full online marketing potential.

• Barbara Bushell, Lawrence, has earned the use of a new Chevy Equinox crossover in recognition of her success in operating her independent Mary Kay business. Bushell began her Mary Kay business in 1978 and became an independent sales director in 1980. In that role she provides education, leadership and motivation to other Mary Kay consultants. This will be the 17th Mary Kay career car she has earned through her outstanding business achievements.
