Lawrence man, 51, charged with driving drunk with child in vehicle

Police arrested a 51-year-old Lawrence man Saturday night on suspicion of drunken driving while he had a 6-year-old girl in the vehicle.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence police spokesman, said the suspect was stopped 10:45 p.m. Saturday for pulling onto 23rd Street without yielding to an eastbound vehicle.

Officers discovered the child and an adult passenger in the vehicle. Douglas County prosecutors Monday charged Judge Wesley O’Bard, 51, with four misdemeanors, a DUI having two prior convictions, no proof of liability insurance, tampering with an ignition interlock device and misdemeanor child endangerment.

A judge set his bond at $1,000, and O’Bard is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday in front of District Judge Michael Malone.
