WICHITA– The former chancellor of Western Carolina University has been named the new president of Wichita State University.

The Kansas Board of Regents announced Friday that John William Bardo was chosen the 13th president of Wichita State.

He’ll replace Donald Beggs, who will resign June 30.

Bardo started his career at Wichita State, where he was graduate coordinator of the master of urban studies program from 1976 to 1977. He was also chairman of university’s sociology and social work department from 1978 to 1983.
