Firebirds softball splits doubleheader

? Free State’s softball team overcame a four-run first-inning deficit Tuesday for a 9-5 victory against Olathe North and a doubleheader split. The Firebirds dropped the opener, 5-4.

Courtney Parker hit a two-run home run in each game and went 3-for-3 in the nightcap. Alex Hill was 4-for-5, including a triple, in the second game.

Kaley Delg pitched five innings in the nightcap and picked up the victory, raising her record to 2-3. Meredith Morris pitched two scoreless innings to record the save.

“We played a complete second game,” FSHS coach Lee Ice said. “To get down 4-0 after a tough loss in the first game, it’s probably the best team win we’ve had for quite some time.”

The Firebirds (5-6) will play Thursday at Shawnee Mission West.
