The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is scheduled to host its annual wood chip sale Thursday through Saturday at the City of Lawrence Wood Recovery and Composting Facility, 1420 E. 11th St.

The hours of the sale will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The sale will be held rain or shine.

The sale is intended for Lawrence homeowners and not commercial businesses. The cost of the wood chips is $10 per pickup load with a slightly higher fee for larger trucks. Anyone purchasing wood chips is asked to bring a tarp to secure them in the truck.

Yes, it'll be gone before Saturday.

The fact that the chips and mulch routinely sell out in a day or two at the most suggests that the price is to low. $20 per pickup truck load is still a bargain relative to other suppliers.

Once again I protest this time of sale. In order to be fair to everyone, the sale should take place during Saturday. When those who work to support this city have a day off to make a purchase.
