To the editor:

On behalf of downtown Lawrence business owners and — if I may be so bold — everyone who enjoyed the incredible Final Four celebrations on Massachusetts Street and beyond, congratulations and thousands of thanks to the Lawrence Police Department, which did an amazing job of crowd control. The nonthreatening but powerful presence of our own officers — and volunteer reinforcements from surrounding jurisdictions — set just the right tone and undoubtedly prevented countless incidents and injuries from occurring.

Thanks, too, to the city’s tireless cleanup crews (actually, I’ll bet they’re pretty tired) for returning downtown Lawrence to its neat and tidy condition every “morning after.”  I would also like to thank my fellow revelers who, with a few inevitable exceptions, showed remarkable respect for other people’s property and each other. Downtown Lawrence appreciates you! Rock chalk, Jayhawk Nation!
