• Keys of Joy! Studio, 1540 Wakarusa Drive, Suite S-E, Lawrence, held its grand opening celebration on Saturday. The celebration included a “Star Wars”-themed gathering that featured costumed characters and a free introductory session about the teaching method the studio uses, Simply Music. The lessons are taught by brother and sister duo Evan and Paige Hunter, both KU students.

• Meredith Alder CFY-SLP MS, speech therapist, has joined Lawrence Therapy Services, 2200 Harvard, Suite 101. Alder specializes in both pediatric and adult outpatient therapy focusing on speech, language, cognitive and swallowing problems.

• Local eco-company, Applied Ecological Services (AES), and their affiliate native-plant nursery, Kaw River Restoration Nurseries (KRRN), will open their doors for an open house and native-plant sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 24 at their new facility, 1271 North 222 Road, Baldwin City. The open house will offer visitors an opportunity to see what an acre of plant production under glass looks like in their 40,000-square-foot greenhouse. They will also learn about local genotype native plants, how to care for them and how to landscape with them.

• Ron King was named Agent of the Month August 2011 based on sales production and customer service. This is the fifth month the King Agency, 3010 Four Wheel Drive, has received AOM honor for 2011.
