A Kansas City, Kan., man pleaded not guilty to three charges Monday in connection with a December robbery of a Kansas University student near downtown.

A trial was set for Dec. 12 for Raymond C. Morgan, 27, who is charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, aggravated robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Prosecutors presented evidence at a preliminary hearing Friday that accused Morgan of coming to Lawrence Dec. 28, 2010, with two co-defendants Ashley C. Johnson, 21, of Kansas City, Kan., and Michael A. Howard, 20, to commit crimes to get money. Johnson, who has received probation for conspiracy and misdemeanor theft convictions, testified Monday that Morgan was in a car with her while Howard used a gun to rob a 21-year-old male KU student who was walking in an alley near the 300 block of West 12th Street.

Prosecutors also accuse Howard of punching a 23-year-old recent female KU graduate in the face and stealing her purse early on Dec. 29 as she was walking near Ninth and Tennessee streets. Howard’s arraignment in the case is scheduled for Tuesday.
