Sheriff, police officers to sponsor drug take-back day on Oct. 29

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Lawrence Police Department are participating in the national prescription drug “Take-Back Day” between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Oct. 29 at the short-term parking lot adjacent to the Douglas County Courthouse, 11th and Massachusetts streets.

Unwanted prescription drugs — including pills and liquids — will be collected and disposed of free of charge.

Illegal drugs will not be accepted.

This is third such area event, which is coordinated by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration. At a local take-back event in April, more than 130 people disposed of 230 pounds of unwanted medications.

For more information, contact Sgt. Steve Lewis of the sheriff’s office at 832-5204.
