— Jake Walter scored a pair of goals, leading the Free State soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Mill Valley on Monday night.

Walter, a senior forward, scored one goal in the first half before adding the other in the final five minutes.

“We played well, but not as well as the coaching staff expected,” Free State coach Kelly Barah said. “Most of the frustration was possession in final third and finishing. Everything was good until that part of it.”

Junior goalkeeper Luke Lesslie helped Free State’s defense to its third consecutive shutout.

The Firebirds (8-5-2) will travel to Shawnee Mission Northwest tonight.

Neither is elite so stop the pissing contest. LHS can take pride in playing all their opponents tough. FSHS can take pride in getting to host a regional game.
