Immediate needs

• Van Go Inc. is looking for three volunteers to come in and work with its Arts Train Youth on a variety of hand sewing projects next week. Volunteers will help the youths sew together the felt purses and ornaments they’re making for the Adornment Show. Projects will be worked from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 24, through Oct. 26. Volunteers are welcome to come in for just one day or all three days if available. Contact Lindsay Ritscher at 785-842-3797 or lindsay@van-go.org if you’re interested in helping with this fun project.

• The Douglas County Child Development Association needs volunteers to haul compost to children’s gardens for the Families, Farmers and Educators United for Healthy Child Development program. If you have a pickup truck and a couple of hours to spare tomorrow morning — Tuesday — at 8:30 a.m., they need you. Contact Emily Hampton or Ashley Graff at 785-842-9679 or emily@dcca.org if you can help.

• Independence Inc. needs skilled volunteers to fulfill three very important roles for the agency. If you have strong writing skills, consider volunteering to write program-specific grants for the agency, or regular agency newsletters for consumers and the community. If you’re a graphic designer, you can volunteer your skills to produce an annual report with guidance from staff members. Contact Meghan Kinley at 785-841-0333, ext. 143, or mkinley@independenceinc.org for more information about volunteering for any of these skilled positions.

• LINK Inc. needs volunteers to work a concession stand at some upcoming home Kansas University football games. Volunteers will sell concessions throughout the game and help clean up when it’s time to close the concession stand. Approximately six volunteers are needed to help at each game, and all volunteers will need to wear khaki or black shorts or pants and a white T-shirt – a KU shirt will be provided upon arrival to wear at the concession stand, as well as a KU hat if you don’t have a personal one to wear. LINK will be selling concessions to help raise money for its program at the following games: Oct. 22 and Nov. 12. If you’re available on either of those dates to help, contact Deb Engstrom at 785-330-3105.
