Topeka ? An appeal of the conviction of Matthew Jaeger will be heard next week by a panel of the Kansas Court of Appeals, which will be meeting in the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass.

Jaeger, now 26, was convicted in 2009 by a Douglas County jury of kidnapping and assaulting his former girlfriend,

Jaeger was sentenced to 106 months in prison. His lawyers have alleged eight trial errors as basis for the appeal. The state contends Jaeger received a fair trial and his conviction should be upheld.

Jaeger currently is in custody at Ellsworth Correctional Facility.

The appeals panel will hear 14 cases on Tuesday and Wednesday. Jaeger’s hearing is set for Tuesday morning.

The Court of Appeals has been scheduling arguments in judicial districts across the state in a continuing effort “to bring the court to the people,” said Judge G. Gordon Atcheson, who will serve as presiding judge.

Judges Karen Arnold-Burger and David Bruns also will serve on the panel.
