To the editor:

Thanks to the Journal-World for its efforts to raise awareness about checking on the integrity of charitable organizations (including “Screening needed” on Oct. 4).

United Way of Douglas County is one of hundreds of charitable organizations serving our local community that are directly accountable to local leaders and are achieving results. We work daily to get the word out about the amazing outcomes that are being achieved with local donated dollars.

On behalf of the charitable sector that is reaching out to residents to financially support critical community needs, I encourage you to take some time to learn about the organizations you support. Ask your friends and neighbors which efforts they invest in and why. Consider serving as a volunteer to guide the vision that you support. And for everyone who already does this… thank you!
