Douglas County mulls accepting items for Sadies Lake Addition

Accepting dedications of easements and rights of way for a planned rural retreat south of Lawrence will be up for approval Wednesday night by members of the Douglas County Commission.

Commissioners will consider accepting the items during the evening portion of the commission’s meeting, set for 6:35 p.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass.

The land involved is known as Sadies Lake Addition, covering 207 acres at 778 E. 1300 Road. The property is owned by a group that includes architect Mike Treanor and Doug Compton, a Lawrence businessman.

Commissioners rezoned the property earlier this year to allow for rural tourism uses on the land. Such uses could include hunting, lodging, conferences and a variety of agricultural activities and operations.

Treanor has said that any development would come with “a very light touch,” likely to include walking, hiking and horse trails, plus some cabins and perhaps a conference center for corporate retreats.
