Hat rescue

To the editor:

We would like to greatly thank the KU Scuba Club for the rescue of a personal treasure!

Several weeks ago, my husband was fishing on a private lake when the wind blew away his hat. Not just any hat, a hat with 30-plus years of Olympic pins attached to the hat! The “precious” hat blew into the water and immediately sank to the bottom. After hours of searching for the “museum quality” possession — can you tell I’m laughing — the “rescue” was called off.

The next day, my husband contacted our daughter-in-law, Sarah Smarsh, who in turn contacted the KU Scuba Club. Jake and his assistant accepted the request of searching for the hat. They arrived at the lake and within 45 minutes the divers surfaced with the “priceless” felt hat atop a hand with ALL pins still intact!

Please support your KU Scuba Club and those fine members! Jake and his team most likely have saved my sanity in not having to hear about the traumatic loss of that felt hat!
