Positive stats

To the editor:

There’s a striking contrast between Douglas County and the rest of the state on some key indicators of family life (“Vital stats provide snapshot of Kansas,” Journal-World, Nov. 18).

In Kansas, there is one divorce for every 1.7 marriages. In Douglas County, it is closer to one divorce for every three marriages. In Kansas, 23.1 out of every 1,000 teenage girls get pregnant. In Douglas County, the frequency is nearly half that, 12.6 per 1,000.

It looks like the only “blue” county in this “red” state is providing a healthier environment for families.
