Immediate needs

• The Centro Hispano Resource Center is in search of volunteers to help with various tasks related to its summer educational program for bilingual children in Lawrence. The program will take place at St. John School from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Saturday in June. Activities will include units on language, arts, music, dance, and will focus on different regions and cultures of Latin America. Volunteers will be needed for a variety of tasks including helping with snacks, setup and cleanup, and assisting the teachers in running the activities. Times are flexible and volunteers can help for one Saturday, all Saturdays or even for just an hour to help with snacks. The lessons will be taught mostly in Spanish, so bilingual people are preferred. However, to just help with setup, cleanup or snacks wouldn’t require much or any Spanish. Please contact Paul Spacek at 843-2039 or info@centrohispanolawrence.org if you can help.

• The Boys and Girls Club is in search of volunteers to help staff its annual Juneteenth Celebration on June 17. Volunteers will help set up and take down the tables and chairs, and other planned activities. General help is needed from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Please contact Kenton Holder at 841-5672 or kholder@sunflower.com for further details.

• Independence Inc. is seeking volunteers for its first Champion of Independence Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 26 at Maceli’s, 1021 N.H. Volunteers will help carry plates of food from the kitchen to tables, fill up drinks and help clean up during and after the event. Ability to stand and walk for at least an hour is necessary, but no training is required. Please contact Meghan Kinley at 785-841-0333, ext. 143, to sign up and help.
