Topless woman charged with leaving baby in car in Gardner

A Johnson County woman is accused of leaving her baby in a car while she tried to enter a bar topless.

The unusual events occurred Monday when 28-year-old Kristin Lowrey, of Gardner, was arrested after she was turned away from Austins Bar and Grill when she tried to enter topless. Her 9-month-old daughter was found inside her car, when temperatures were near 90 degrees.

Johnson County prosecutors on Tuesday charged Lowrey with a misdemeanor of endangering a child. She pleaded not guilty.

The Kansas City Star reports that she also has an unrelated heroin charge pending against her.

Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe used the case to warn people that with hot temperatures arriving, it is illegal to leave children locked in their cars.
