Douglas County commissioners consider consolidating public works facilities

Douglas County commissioners expressed interest Wednesday evening in an option to consolidate county public works facilities in a new location.

Commissioners heard a presentation from Keith Browning, county public works director, giving three options to alleviate the county’s ailing public works facilities, which are in two separate locations.

To build new facilities housing operations, engineering and administration on new land would be the most expensive option, but commissioners said they thought it would pay off more in the long run.

“I think the third option is the one that serves the county best and is the best use of the dollars down the road,” commissioner Nancy Thellman said.
