Volunteers are needed Saturday, April 2, to help clean historic Black Jack Battlefield as part of Park Day, a national effort to clean Civil War battlefields.
This is the third year that volunteers will help clean Black Jack Battlefield and Nature Park, 163 E. 2000 Road, Wellsville. Workers will receive T-shirts and hear a local historian speak about the importance of Black Jack Battlefield.
Volunteers should wear sturdy clothes and bring gloves and water. They will pick up trash, gather branches and sticks and ready the park for its tourist season starting at 9 a.m. that day. Rain will not delay park cleanup.
For more information about the volunteer opportunity, contact Carol von Tersch at 785-883-2106 or events@blackjackbattlefield.org.

Sadly the site was looted by a bunch of thieves from a Lawrence metal detecting club. Any historical record was destroyed.

RESPECT IS WHAT IS NEEDED.... YES IT WAS A BATTLE GROUND AND YES IT NEEDS TO BE MAINTAINED THAT BEING SAID WHY DONT YOU SHUT UP AND HELP OUT ITS ONLY FOR A DAY AND ITS A GOOD CAUSE... ITS OUR HISTORY OUR PAST.. IT WONT BE THERE FOR LONG UNLESS IT IS TAKEN CARE OF.. FUTHERMORE ITS A BEAUTIFUL SITE WELL WORTH THE DRIVE...AND NOT DESERVING OF THE IGNORANT REMARK.... FYI THE SITE WAS A HOME STEAD AND THEN THE CITY OF BALDWIN USED IT AS A CITY DUMP FOR MANY YEARS SO YESSSS THERE IS SOME CLEANING THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE AND ALWAYS WILL NEED TO BE DONE... THANKS BLACKJACK VOLUNTEER...
