Journal-World wins 16 awards from Suburban Newspapers of America

The Lawrence Journal-World on Friday won 16 Suburban Newspapers of America Awards for 2010.

The Oakland (Calif.) Press was the only other daily newspaper to win 16 awards in the annual contest.

The Journal-World won three first-place, five second-place and six third-place awards, and two honorable mentions.

First-place honors

• Best Young People’s Coverage for Pulse and

• Best Special Section for the annual KU edition.

• Best Headline.

Second-place awards

• Best Entertainment-Lifestyle Section for Pulse.

• Best Editorial Writing.

• Best Graphic Artwork supporting news content.

• Best Headline.

• Best Feature Series.

Third-place honors

• Best Niche Product for Go!

• Best Coverage of Local Business and Economic News.

• Best News Photo.

• Best Editorial Page.

• Best Headline.

• Best Feature Series.

Honorable mentions

• Best Photojournalism.

• Best In-depth Reporting.

The Journal-World was named SNA’s Newspaper of the Year in its circulation category (30,000 or less) in 2010, 2009, 2007 and 2005, and placed second in 2006.

SNA is composed of more than 2,000 newspapers across North America.

I go out of my way to avoid the "GO" section (and the Wellcommons)
