Hallmark announces 3 percent revenue increase for 2010

One of Lawrence’s larger manufacturers posted positive financial results for 2010.

Kansas City, Mo.-based Hallmark announced Thursday that its total revenue increased 3 percent in 2010 to $4.1 billion. The privately owned company, which operates a major greeting card plant in northern Lawrence, does not release profit totals, but the company confirmed that earnings also increased for all four of the company’s operating units.

Sales of greeting cards, giftwrap and other holiday items were particularly strong. The company said in a release that the holiday season was its strongest since 2007.

Business also was up for its Crayola division. Revenue from Crayola products increased by 8 percent during the year. The company’s Kansas City real estate subsidiary, Crown Center, also had a positive year with revenue growing by 9 percent. The company attributed the increase to improved hotel business that was driven by citywide conventions.
